چکیده

Considering how difficult it is for a pin in the ocean to be found, painstaking searches among historical documents and eyewitness accounts often end up with more unknowns questions. We developed three-tier geo-spatial tech-based approach discover unfold lost WWII heritage features countryside of Hong Kong that can applied other contexts. It started an analysis texts, old maps, aerial photos, military plans geographic information system (HGIS) Project ‘The Battle 1941: Spatial History Project’ by Baptist University define regions/points interest. Then, 3D point clouds extracted from government’s airborne LiDAR were migrated form digital terrain model (DTM) geo-registration GIS. All geo-referenced HK1980 Grid via accurate positioning using global navigation satellite system—real-time kinematics (GNSS-RTK). A red relief image map (RRIM) was then used tunnels, trenches, pillboxes great detail calculating topographical openness. The last tier tech work field involving ground validation findings previous two tiers on-site imaging terrestrial LiDAR. feature built integrated into DTM. this paper standardised adopted streamline workflow archaeological studies not only but also elsewhere.

Principles of airborne laser scanning

Figure 1 represents the paradigm of laser scanning. A paradigm as generally known focuses on the basics and ignores minor matters. The paradigm of laser scanning can be characterised in the following way: • A bundle of 3D-vectors, positioned by GPS and oriented by IMU • Active sensors Figure 2 illustrates the paradigm of Stereo-Photogrammetry and can be characterized by: • 2 directed bundles, w...

Airborne laser scanning: basic relations and formulas

An overview of basic relations and formulas concerning airborne laser scanning is given. They are divided into two main parts, the first treating lasers and laser ranging, and the second one referring to airborne laser scanning. A separate discussion is devoted to the accuracy of 3D positioning and the factors influencing it. Examples are given for most relations, using typical values for ALS a...

Simulating Sampling Efficiency in Airborne Laser Scanning Based Forest Inventory

A simple simulator was developed to test whether airborne laser scanning can be used as a strip sampling tool for forest inventory purposes. The simulator is based on the existing two stages, grid based laser inventory procedure. A population of trees was created using an existing forest stand structure generator. Each tree was represented by means of its 3D-crown model derived from airborne la...

Experiences with Airborne and Ground-based Polarimetry

Polarimetry in the far-infrared and submillimeter has been valuable in tracing magnetic fields in bright Galactic Clouds. We discuss the techniques we have developed and trends we have found in polarization vs column density, and vs wavelength. The polarization spectrum has proven to be more interesting than had been anticipated. It is potentially valuable in explaining grain alignment and in c...
